The Kanatawi Project: A New Sovereign Future for Indigenous Nations

The Time for Decolonization is Now
For over 150 years, Canada has claimed sovereignty over Indigenous lands under a fraudulent legal fiction known as "Crown Land." This colonial system, rooted in genocide, cultural erasure, and systemic apartheid (via the Indian Act), has led to the continued oppression and dispossession of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Turtle Island.
The Kanatawi Project is a radical yet necessary vision: the peaceful dissolution of Canada and its provinces, replaced by a sovereign inter-nation confederacy of Indigenous Nations — Kanatawi (New Canada). This project is not about reforming a broken system; it's about building a post-colonial framework that respects Indigenous sovereignty, restores stolen lands, and fosters true nation-to-nation relationships.
What is Kanatawi?
Kanatawi is a sovereign alliance of Indigenous Nations, created to facilitate:
-
Inter-nation peace and conflict resolution
-
Mutually beneficial trade agreements
-
Environmental stewardship rooted in traditional knowledge
-
Cultural preservation and language revitalization
-
International representation as equal sovereign entities
Kanatawi is monarchy-free. It abolishes all allegiance to the British Crown and nullifies the colonial constructs of "Canada" and its provincial governments. Governance will be led by a Grand Council of Nations, where every Indigenous Nation has equal representation and a voice in collective decision-making.
UN Membership for All Indigenous Nations
A cornerstone of The Kanatawi Project is international legitimacy. Kanatawi will seek immediate recognition by the United Nations as a sovereign inter-nation confederacy. However, it doesn't stop there. Every Indigenous Nation within Kanatawi will be advocated for full membership in the UN as sovereign states, each with independent diplomatic rights, legal standing, and representation in global affairs.
This ensures that no Nation is subsumed or marginalized within Kanatawi. Sovereignty means sovereignty — fully recognized and enforced on the global stage.
Key Pillars of The Kanatawi Project
1. Dissolution of Canada & Redistribution of Crown Land
96% of Canada's land, currently classified as "Crown Land," will be returned to Indigenous Nations according to ancestral territories. This is not a "land acknowledgment"—it's land back, legally enforced through international oversight.
2. Sovereign Governance
Each Indigenous Nation will maintain full self-governance, with their own democratic systems rooted in traditional customs and modern governance principles. Kanatawi serves as a diplomatic platform, not a centralized state.
3. Economic Sovereignty
A Kanatawi Trade and Economic Council (KTEC) will oversee inter-nation trade, resource management, and economic development, ensuring sustainable and equitable economic practices aligned with Indigenous values.
4. Cultural Revival & Education
Kanatawi will establish an Indigenous Knowledge and Education Council to develop education systems rooted in Indigenous languages, worldviews, and scientific knowledge systems.
5. Environmental Stewardship
Kanatawi's environmental policies will be guided by traditional ecological knowledge, aiming to restore balance and protect the land, waters, and all living beings from the extractive industries that have devastated Indigenous territories.
Why This Matters Globally
The Kanatawi Project is not just a Canadian issue—it's a global model for post-colonial governance. In an era of ecological collapse, political corruption, and systemic injustice, Kanatawi represents a new paradigm of governance that prioritizes sustainability, community sovereignty, and peace over profit and power.
Decolonization is not a metaphor. It requires concrete action, legal frameworks, and the dismantling of illegitimate colonial states. Kanatawi is the blueprint.
